DTF (Direct to Film)

What is Direct to Film (DTF) T-Shirt Printing and How does it work?

Direct to Film printing is an emerging technology that allows us to print your custom designs onto special films which are then heat pressed onto your chosen garment. It’s a unique process combining the best of digital inkjet printing and transfer printing.

Considered the holy grail of the direct-to t-shirt market, direct-to-film printers create designs with bright colours and clear patterns, which end up looking similar to a traditional screen printed shirt. The ink holds up well on all kinds of fabrics including cotton, nylon, polyester, and tri-blends or 50/50. You get premium-quality printing with DTF Printers and the specialty ink they use.

If you wish to bring out the brightness and delicacy of the colour tones in both dark and light fabrics, looking for bright, vibrant prints that “pop” and look great on all sorts of fabrics. Direct to Film does that and more!

Screen Printing

Home grown here in New Zealand, with over 30 years combined experience, Screen Printing is one of our specialties.

We can print your own design or our team is here to help design something with you/for you. We strive to get every project done as fast as possible while not sacrificing any of the quality & customer support.

Screen printed locally in Auckland, NZ, we're well known for the following:

  • Screen Printing is very cost effective for large runs and gives a high quality, vibrant and long lasting print.
  • Screen set up costs apply per colour as every colour for a design requires a separate screen.
  • Screen set up fees are a one-off cost. Any subsequent reorder of the same image will not require this charge, but will incur a screen reset fee.
  • Price is based on the quantity of garments being printed and number of colours used. If you are printing bright colours onto dark garments you may also need a white base and this counts as an extra colour.

A popular alternative to Screen Printing is Direct-to-Film T-Shirt Printing, which is often more cost effective and makes vibrant colours really pop! We'd be very happy to discuss the various options available for your requirements, simply complete the contact us form below and we'll be in touch promptly.

Screen Printing

How does Screen Printing for Custom T-Shirt and Design Work?

The most durable transfer method for custom printed t-shirts is screen printing, which involves creating a stencil (printers call this a “screen”), and then using that stencil to apply layers of ink on the printing surface. Each colour is applied using a different stencil, one at a time, combined to achieve the final look.

Screen printing is the best option for designs that require a high level of vibrancy, when printing on dark shirts, or for specialty products. The ink in screen printing is applied thicker than other methods, which results in brighter colours even on darker shirts.

Every order is different and whether you’re curious about the cost of your order or the price difference between different designs or products, we’re always here to provide a quick, accurate price quote with no obligation to buy.

Your all-inclusive price is determined by

  • The product(s) you select
  • The total number of ink colours needed for printing
  • The total quantity of items in your order
  • The artwork / graphic supplied

Other factors such as personalisation of the t-shirt design (adding personalised names and/or numbers to your items) or special requests also affect the cost. Whilst there's no minimum order quantity, the cost per t-shirt significantly reduces with quantity. If you're looking for other options for your brand, you may also wish to consider custom embroidery of your logo on polos or a combination of embroidery and custom printed custom tees.

Savings tip: The easiest way to reduce the cost per item is to increase the quantity of your order. Consider ordering a few extras to maximize your savings. Reducing the number of ink colours in your design can also lead to significant savings. Our team of talented artists can make any design shine with only three, two, or even one ink colour!

Embroidery

Need a quick turnaround for your custom embroidery project in NZ? KiwiCrew's Auckland facility offers fast, high-quality embroidery services in just 2-3 business days. Perfect for school uniforms, corporate apparel, logos, or sports clothing, our custom embroidery adds a professional and lasting touch to any item.

What is an Embroidery Service and How Does it Work?

Embroidery is different to screen printing as it's stitched into fabric with thread and a needle, which makes it a more durable, long lasting branding method compared to prints. The personalised designs and logos can be simple or intricate, and the thread can be of various colours, textures, and materials. The distinctive nature of embroidery is often used to embellish clothing, such as t-shirts, polos and caps, and is most commonly seen for stitching custom embroidered corporate logos on polo shirts.

KiwiCrew performs all custom personalised embroidery orders in-house at our Auckland location, which allows fast turnaround and delivery throughout New Zealand. Take a look at the production process from a row of our embroidery machines in our facility below:

    Sublimation

What is it and how does it work?

Sublimation is a process where the dye transitions between a solid and a gas without going through the liquid stage. Virtually anything that can be imagined can be printed all over in stunning full colour. Once this is done then the garment is sewn together. Since the ink becomes part of the structure of the material, the images on the fabric don’t fade or crack – even after multiple washings, sublimation printers are tailor-made for customising polyester sportswear fabrics and apparel. There’s no better method for adding dynamic graphics to performance apparel!

We supply fully Sublimated Team Gear/Sportswear with customised team colours and designs. Our turnaround for all Sublimated uniforms is typically 4 weeks.

Our Minimum order for all sublimated uniform is 10pcs and we offer a free design service. Our Sublimated Uniform prices include all logos, designs, names and numbers.
